2015 FXT road trip!

07/18/2015

I’ve been enjoying the FXT everyday I drive it. It’s practicality cannot be trumped—even my wife’s 2013 Outback seems less practical in comparison. The cabin space and ease of access is just superb, and I’m not surprised that Subaru is breaking sales records lately mostly due to the new Forester platform. I decided to take […]

Boomba 75mm Throttle Body Review

06/11/2014

I recently decided to pick up a larger throttle body since I had read some great things about the low-end response it generates. Across multiple dyno sheets, it added more power everywhere, but significantly added a bit more torque down low. All good things in my book The installation was pretty straight forward. After removing […]

Michelin Pilot Super Sport Review

04/19/2014

Upon receiving the car back last November, it was pretty apparent that the tires had not been rotated. The back tires had some decent treat left, but the front were pretty worn. It was quite a difference. Considering you really want to have consistent tread with an AWD vehicle, and the fact I was never […]

Accessport V3 + STi Dashboard

04/17/2014

Made some tweaks to my current displays and added a new boost gauge, as well as my own unique setup for mounting my Cobb Accessport v3. The boost gauge is a digital AEM, which replaced the really cheap and crappy Prosport Gauge which also beeped at me, refused to work, and flat out died within […]

Perrin ELH + CeraKote!

03/24/2014

While everything was out and apart I decided to ceramic coat my headers, since the heat wrap was already disintegrating and falling apart in less than a year This coating now matches the coated exhaust pipes from P&L, and hopefully it’s a lot cleaner for oil changes too Perfection Industrial Finishing in Tucson did the […]

Tuning done!

09/08/2013

296whp @ 6600rpm \\ 290wtq @ 3880rpm While I’ve had the tune finished since July, I’ve been busy with work and haven’t really taken the car out that much…since it’s been hellishly hot in AZ. Temps have cooled off recently (monsoon season) and took it out for a ride today Car handles fantastic, the brakes […]

What’s next?

05/09/2013

Been thinking a lot since I sold the STi of where I wanted to go. Go big with a GTR (not exactly financially smart right now), go with a NA big block (like Z06), or stick with Subaru. Something about the utility of a hatchback is incredibly appealing to me, not sure why. I’m also […]

Transmission Interlock Arm

02/07/2013

Just in case anyone else has the problem I’ve experienced, here is what happened.  So in a rapid shift from 2nd to 3rd gear (a la drag race), the gear never landed in 3rd, and the shifter went completely loose.  It would travel completely forward and back with no resistance, and it was stuck in […]

Broken shift linkage

02/01/2013

I went on a cruise last night, and it was glorious.  I was finally pushing the car and holy cow she is fast!  I did a launch to get some practice back in, and the shift from 2nd to 3rd never connected.  It never shifted well at high RPM from 2nd to 3rd.  Whatever happened, […]

553whp + 527wtq

01/17/2013

Seriously, Phatbotti Tuning is freaking awesome.  It’s not a completely final tune, but its probably at the point of its power.  It’s running pretty low timing advance, and AFR’s are pretty safe.  I’m a happy camper!

STi Snow

First portrait

01/01/2013

I never had any really interesting shots of the STi before “the incident” and we just got some of the first “real” snow of the season.  Thought I’d go up for a quick photo!

subaru engine rotated bay sti ej25 photo

One Week Later

12/29/2012

I’m still beyond thrilled with the work that Archie did.  Everything is just humming along perfectly.  I took a few quick pics of the engine bay to show off some of the custom work and piping involved with this setup.  I’d say Archie made it look a LOT better than it was before, but, its […]

Rallispec Shortblock

10/29/2012

Once the engine was torn down, it became apparent that the pistons were not salvageable.  The rods looked decent, and the block would need to be re-honed for new pistons.  Knowing this was going to be several thousand dollars, I decided to sit on it.  I almost was serious about selling-it as-is.  At the beginning […]

Rod Knock

10/06/2012

This is a crappy video from my iPhone, but this is what rod knock sounds like.  I towed the car to a trusted shop to get a diagnosis.  I was hoping it was only something wrong with the valve cover being hit, but no, it was my worst fear; rebuild the engine. Rod knock happens […]
